EVENT - Icon Sport: To Hell and Back

Saturday, March 15th, Icon Sport will be holding their next event entitled "To Hell and Back" at the Blaisdell Arena in Honolulu, Hawaii. This event holds significant importance, as a new Icon Sport World Middleweight Champion will be crowned.

On February 9th, "Ruthless" Robbie Lawler was stripped of his Icon Sport middleweight title by Icon Sport President T. Jay Thompson after months of setbacks and postponements due to Lawler's injuries. "We had a very rough year in 2007", said Thompson. "It's with great seriousness and lots of thought that Icon Sport has taken the unprecedented action of stripping Robbie Lawler of his Icon Sport world middleweight title."

Stepping in to battle for the now vacant title are two very powerful strikers, Hawaii's Kala Kolohe Hose and Phil "The NY Badass" Baroni. Hose had been ready to battle Lawler for the title on two seperate occasions, June and December of '07. However, both fights were canceled due to Lawler's injuries.

"We had to bring in a fighter worthy of this belt," Thompson said. "We also had to bring in someone physically worthy, and I think someone that brings the honor and respect to the sport that belongs, and someone that really has the drive for greatness. Also, we want someone who's exciting that will push Kala Kolohe to his limit." Phil Baroni was chosen to be that fighter.

Both Baroni and Hose are "tuck the chin, and swing for the fences" type fighters. You're certainly not going to want to blink during this explosive bout.

Bronson Pieper will also be onhand to defend his 145-pound state title against Sadhu Bott. With other noteable fighters like Tyson Nam, Ross Ebanez, Brennan Kamaka, and Eddie Rincon, the "To Hell and Back" fightcard looks to be a great night of MMA action.
